Writing for the Journal of Adventist Education®
The Journal of Adventist Education® is the professional publication of Seventh-day Adventist® teachers and educational administrators, worldwide, and should address topics of interest to that group.
The target audience may be teachers: elementary, secondary, or college/university level; or educational administrators. The Journal's constituency is international, a fact writers should keep in mind as they explore the implications or applications of a given topic. Special attention, where applicable, should be given to the concerns of minorities and students with special needs. Writers should define their target group precisely and address its concerns in a specific manner.
Articles by free-lance authors are welcome. Please submit an inquiry or summary of the article before sending a finished manuscript. The Journal of Adventist Education® purchases first North American rights for each article it prints. Authors are paid upon publication of their articles. Amount varies, depending on length and other factors. Authors also receive two copies of the finished magazine in which their article appears. Articles may be translated and printed in the international edition of the Journal (French, Spanish, and Portuguese), and/or posted on the Journal’s Website.
Articles may deal with educational theory or practice, although the Journal seeks to emphasize the practical. Articles dealing with the creative and effective use of methods to enhance teaching skills or learning in the classroom are especially welcome. Whether theoretical or practical, such essays should demonstrate the skillful integration of Seventh-day Adventist faith/values and learning.
Periodically, issues will deal extensively with a single topic or issue. Articles representing various approaches or the in-depth discussion of aspects of the issue will be welcome.
Clear, sharp, color photographs and appropriate charts and graphs are a welcome adjunct. Photos can be submitted as prints, slides, or in electronic format such as high-resolution scans or digital photos (300 dpi) in .jpg or .tif format.
Do not send more than one or two photos as e-mail attachments. If you are sending a large number of photos, store them on a CD-ROM and mail it to the Editor’s office. Include your name as part of the photo file name.
To ensure high quality photos, use the highest setting on your digital camera.
Model releases must be obtained for photos of people (signed by parents if the subject is a minor). Contact the Editor’s office for Model Release forms.
